A 20-year-old rap star has been arrested in Florida on drug and gun charges. The rapper, Kodak Black, was taken into custody by authorities in south Florida last on a recent Thursday. Police charged him with a total of seven felony violations.
The rapper, who hails from Pembroke Pines, was being held at the Broward County Jail as of last reports. The charges he faces include: grand theft of a firearm, marijuana possession, probation violation, child neglect and possession of a weapon by someone convicted of a felony.
According to police, the rapper, whose legal name is Dieuson Octave, has a long list of instances on his criminal record. However, the details of this latest arrest are not immediately clear and police have not revealed a great deal about the incident.
In the arrest before this one, Kodak Black secured his release from Broward County jail in June after getting arrested on robbery charges in May 2016. In addition to robbery, the rapper was also charged with possession of a firearm by a delinquent, false imprisonment and trying to evade the police. In another incident, the rapper was indicted by the South Carolina grand journey in October based on allegations that he committed sexual misconduct against a teenage girl following one of his concerts. He secured his release after that incident on Dec. 1 after posting $100,000 bail.
The charges the rapper is facing in this most recent arrest are particularly severe and they could result in a 30-year prison sentence if the man is convicted. However, if the rapper can successfully navigate his criminal proceedings, he may be able to lessen the severity of his punishments and/or get the charges dropped or dismissed in court.
