As Hurricane Irma approaches, a 33-year-old Florida mother was arrested and accused of drunk driving after getting into a wrong-way accident. Police say that the woman smelled of alcohol and was so distraught following the collision that she urinated on herself and began yelling at bystanders while using racial slurs.
What's more, the woman allegedly had her young son with her in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Police arrived on scene shortly after the accident and arrested the woman. She was booked at the Volusia County Jail and will now face charges of neglect of a child, disorderly conduct and three counts of DUI.
Police allege that the woman was driving at approximately 4:30 p.m. on a recent Thursday, when her car collided with a sport utility vehicle. Her 3-year-old son was with her at the time.
Fortunately, the crash was only a fender-bender. It doesn't appear that anyone was hurt in the collision, which police blame on the woman's failure to drive on the right side of the road and her alleged state of intoxication.
After being arrested, the woman appeared in court the following Friday. The court set her bond at $9,000. The court further barred her from having any unsupervised visits with her son. The woman's criminal record reveals that she had four arrests in 2010 and 2011 related to marijuana possession and DUI.
This woman has yet to be found guilty of any of the charges and allegations referenced above. At this point, she has only been accused of crimes. As such, she will remain innocent, until -- and only if -- the prosecution proves her to be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
